Frequently asked questions
Searching gives me inappropriate results - how can I find the right jobs?
The reason you may receive jobs that seem inappropriate could be your keywords.
Our searching is based on the most simple and logical methodology.
Using the following search method allows you to find jobs with very specific or broad criteria.
Keywords allow you to search for a specific word, or string of words in vacancies. Keywords are very important to ensure you get relevant results. This works by matching exact words or phrase entered by an recruiter in their posting. Remember, agencies may have put one of many descriptive terms in their job description. For example a Human Resources Manager vacancy may also be a Personnel Manager or HR Manager.
If you type a single keyword you will find all jobs with that keyword in either the title or description. If you type multiple keywords, such as:
designer engineer
all jobs containing either keyword will be displayed.
If you place '+' or '-' in front of the keyword, those keywords either must be included or must not be included in your results:
+designer +engineer
displays all jobs containing 'designer' AND'engineer'
+designer +engineer -manager
displays all jobs containing 'designer' AND 'engineer' and NOT containing 'manager'
It is possible to group keywords together using double quote marks when searching:
+"human resources manager" -director
results MUST contain human resources manager AND MUST NOT contain director
+"customer service" +helpdesk french german
MUST contain customer service AND helpdesk, nice to have french and/or german
Advanced use
If it's essential to have one of a selection of skills, use brackets around the selection e.g. Sales manager must have French or German or Spanish:
+"sales manager" +(french german spanish)
To summarise:
- If it's a phrase put quotation marks around the words which you want to see together in a job
- If it's a must, put a + sign in front of the the word and only jobs with that word will return
- If it's a must not, put a - sign in front of the the word and no jobs with that word will return
- If it's a 'nice to have' just list the word and jobs with any of those words will return
We find this is an easier approach to keyword searching, and produces a clearer search string than using the Boolean approach of AND, OR etc.
